A set of two CDs of an organ played by, approved by and possibly designed by J. S. Bach, and thought by many to be the best instrument on which to perform his works, but there's more: there is an ethereal quality to the music which conjures up a mental picture of a huge cathedral. In fact, St Wenzels is a tall box of a church, largely unimpeded by pillars and deep galleries, the ideal sound chamber.

Paints a marvelous sound picture - not just the organ, which is excellent - but the whole effect of a large space filled with harmony is particularly appealing. |

A magnificent wall of harmonious Bach greatness, played on a stunning instrument. Play it LOUD! |

So much "chiff" that the counterpoint sounds like played on a marimba... |

The one track I've heard so far where the acoustics prove a little too much for the music and tend to mush the detail a little - but the blurring is still a rather pleasant and musical effect. The gently rolling pedal line suits the acoustic very well. |

Rich sonorities from an historic and (judging by the photograph) beautiful organ

Rich, full acoustics and a fairly distant recording add to this piece, giving it a nice meditative feeling. |

The Fugue is another example of how well suited the organ is to this music, and vice versa. |

On what is thought to be the best organ of all for Bach, and the "sumptuous reverberations" of this church, this is just about as perfect as it gets. |
