An astonishingly bad performance by any standards with a horrible mess of a registration. It's shocking that this has been preserved at all as a recording.

... like all his performances. |

Wow, don't think I've heard the Passacaglia done with so many contrasting tone colours & styles before: makes it sound more like a collection of variations, than a single piece. Is that his electronic organ he's using there? Not bad for 1973, but a few of the stops sound plainly artificial.

this was his Rodgers "Black Beauty" touring organ and yes some of the voices are dreadful - thank you for not criticizing and appeciating for what it is.

The lesson here is not the organ itself, but the playing and approach to this work. I am not a fan of the artificial electronic organ, but I found the playing of great interest and worth the listen. |

Oh, puleeze... Not more clap-along-a-Bach. What drivel.

Virgil Fox's flying circus...
By: jsb1685 on Mar, 05 2012
Just dreadful....PLEASE delete this from your catalogue!
By: organlistener on May, 02 2012
Well really ... why not clap for and to organ music ... but this is just too much.
By: stlorganist on Sep, 19 2012
artistry, dexterity and showmanship. most people did not go to hear Virgil Fox perform because he was a classical organist.. they went for the show. different tastes for different palates. to dengrate someone for success is just crude jeolosy and an over inflated sense of self.

Agree with stlorganist's main comments, while deprecating the personal attack at the end. A rousing performance like this would be great for introducing young (and older) people to the organ - and to Bach |
