I own an original copy of this LP. On good equipment, it still sounds amazing. Schreiner was a genius.

Brilliantly done! Watch what he does (follow along with the score) as he covers off the grand orgue part, the orgue de choeur part, and sometimes the choral parts!

Registration too bright and top heavy. Needs weight and thickness in the sound. Not romantic at all.

Agreed, majesticpipes. The recording needs "cleaning up" as well.

Recording was made in 1960, technology has changed a bit since then...

I heard the great Alexander Schreiner play this at the dedication of the Aeolian-Skinner instrument at St John's Presbyterian, Berkeley, CA more than a half century ago. He said, "There is more music in this little piece than in most of the modern repertoire."

Lovely piece. Thanks for the story alexei!

Better sonics in the newer recording by Richard Elliott, but great to have this vintage LP by Schreiner himself.

This the first I've heard the piece with chimes or bells. And I don't think it's at all corny.

By: mrorgan on Jun, 10 2014

I believe there is also a version out there with Virgil Fox at Wanamaker Organ doing the same thing with the bells/chimes.

By: Tromba on Nov, 12 2015

Since the piece is about bells...it only makes sense. This was one of Schreiner's "signature" pieces.
