This is one of the worst renditions of Bach's "Ach blieb bei uns..." BWV649 I've ever heard. It is played far too slowly and the registration is terrible.

i agree, that the micro's are too far away from the Instrument. there are other recordings made from this organ - much more better!!

Rather nice, but let down by the recording having the microphone too far from the organ - which then becomes swamped by the acoustics.

By: Ortolland on Jul, 10 2012

I fully agree with Brian. Owing to the acustics, probably, the tempo is also rather slow.

Based on the early history of the organ (a large organ in JSB's day), and JSB's endorsement of the original, it is a shame that the recording engineers did not pay better attention to how the recording would sound to the listener. Are there other recordings using this organ that are better produced?

By: tonithepipe on May, 16 2017

in my experiences with organ-recordings for more than 30 years, I agree with brian, the mics are too far from the instrument. I have good results having the mics by end of the first third from the organ in ralation to the room from organ to the nave.

It's such a shame this beautiful piece gets completely lost in the acoustics, and I'm rather surprised it was included on the CD at all: it's a completely failed recording, technically.

The initial flow is sublime. After a while the deep resonance of the base line is added. I run out of superlatives.

Too much legato for my taste. Bach should be played with more structure today. In particular if the room has so much resonance anyway. Of course, the Magnificat Fuge is great.

Love the flow of it and the entrance of the pedal is superb.

What *was* he thinking, using that blundering stop on the left hand? Bizarre...

.....to slowly......

By: Brian on Oct, 17 2012

Slower than usual, yes - but what a fantastic sound.

I love this tempo AND the registration! Thank you, Reinhardt !! You've discovered the real majesty of this piece.
