Does it seem a little fast?
By: mrorgan on Feb, 07 2017
It seems like it's a Newman trait - faster is better... |

I was never impressed by such velocity. I find it disagreeable.
By: jsb1685 on Jan, 02 2013
way too fast, this is just silly and ruins it
By: Miandra on Dec, 26 2018
Impossible. Not worth in hearing such a mess and shame if "interpretation"... Trash it!!! |

Too fast, choppy and generally very messy. The fugue is utterly ridiculous.
By: gemshorn on Feb, 08 2013
agree, way tooooooo fast! and one single registration throughout the entire piece, not the kind I prefer... |

Surprise - another one played *way* too fast... and faster than the organist can manage.
By: jfk1961 on Oct, 29 2015
EW!
By: bienchen on Mar, 06 2016
impossible! Out of any control!
By: Sunday Afternoon on Mar, 27 2018
Agreed - not the best interpretation. |

When playing the Prelude, was he thinking that he had a plane/train to catch?
By: Ortolland on Jul, 23 2013
Such a tempo is a nonsense.
By: tonithepipe on May, 03 2016
i have the same Impression...
By: Piccolo on Aug, 14 2016
@ Ortolland: Without discussion: This speed is really a nonsense. The composition is loosing character |

Hmm - playing a passacaglia like a prelude doesn't work. Too fast and much, MUCH too showy, twiddly and dynamic: totally misses the point, the movement and the stately progression of this piece.
By: jfk1961 on Mar, 19 2012
Whoa! Slow down Dude!!!
By: stlorganist on May, 30 2012
is this guy running in the Kentucky Derby? I seldom comment on the organists interpretation but this is far to fast.
By: nigh on Aug, 08 2012
I have never heard this man play at other than breakneck speed. Thus I have never sought out his recordings.
By: gemshorn on Jan, 23 2013
Much too fast indeed, and indeed the passacaglia is played like a prelude and I don't like it much. But this alternate view of this much played work is yet interesting. And very cleanly played, which is at this speed not a small point! |
