What a valuable resource to have...to hear the composers play their own works on a original C-C instrument even if the sound is not state-of-the-art is wonderful!

But composers are not always the best performers?

. . . and this appears to be a good example/ |

In this particular instance the composer is NOT the best performer of this work. Even at this speed and considering the quality of the recording, this performance is muddled, counter melodies are undefined and extremely strained...seems he does not have the dexterity to clearly and precisely recreate the music he wrote. Age?

Possibly somewhat true, but I don't think we are really in tune with the real spirit of what the composer intended.

Just remember he recorded his Toccata at the age of 88 in 1932.

An amazing recording of Widor doing Toc 5.. I agree about composers and their performance skills - this is a good example. BUT, he wrote the piece and the take-away maybe the registration he used. on the St. Suplice organ. And, yes he was 88. Let's hear Richard Conte when he's 88! |

An albun of the year 1932, if this is true, it's really and more than historic! |

One very rare occasion to hear the artist in person, and on the cathedral organ as it souded before being rebuilt ! Excellent ! |
