I lived at a time when this piece was considered corny. What do others think at this era?
By: Rollinglenn on Sep, 27 2013
This style was near the end of the American Romantic Organ period when the Skinner, Moller, and Kilgen organs were massive instruments capable of imitating the symphony orchestra. They were the most "theatrical" of the concert and church organs. Consider that they were the classical cousins of the movie palace theatre organs. Both styles of instrument existed before stereo - even before "Hi-Fi". There were no iPods, mp3 players - not even transistor radios. People went to hear their favorite popular and classical sounds as played by one person! Not a band or symphony orchestra. Yes the world has changed and this style of music may strike many as corny, but it was THE music of its day. Just like Baroque music it may someday have a resurgence in popularity.

Rollinglenn -- I understand, because I was on the scene even before the near "end of the Romantic Organ period." Further, my teacher insisted I learn to play "In a Monestary Garden." It didn't come off too well on our church's organ, a theater organ at that. |

Refreshing, restful, and as colorful as a great rose window. Wish I knew if it is in a collection or published as a solo piece. Anyone? |
