There was a Facebook group for a time: "If your Widor Toccata clocks in at less than 6 minutes you're playing it too fast." This one's below that, and sounds a "little" rushed but not too bad...

Acoustics influence many performance tempi.

A little too nippy but at least it didn't fall apart at speed like so many of the other flimsy versions around.

The "symphonic strings" approach doesn't help at all. Disappointing.

Nontrivial, romantic Bach, but I prefer the sound of sesquialtera in this great choral.

so full of young energy!

And himself. I was hoping marriage and a few years would make a more serious musician of Felix. Alas, this piece played at the break-neck speed he's taking it makes it almost impossible to hear what's "IN" the piece. Nevertheless, I wish Mr. Hell the best and a stellar career. He's worked his butt off, heaven knows.

Rather a harsh comment. He was only a lad of 15 when this was recorded. You see, CD recordings to not age and mature as the artist that recorded them... they are frozen in time.

Ah, if it's going to be played at all then it should be played in a grand style and with panache. Sure, it's an old chestnut but it's still nice to hear it played really well. (goes "ooh" at the bride, wipes tear from eye)

By: stlorganist on Jul, 30 2012

I personally do not play this at weddings unless requested /demanded but it is masterfully done here.

By: nigh on Mar, 07 2015

It does supporrt the complete spectrum of runaway emotions at a wedding.
