My favorite CD from Marie-Claire Alain who sadly passed away today at the age of 86.

Originally played: Not in the way of a typical 'Bach-Interpretation' in sound, but interesting the comparison to the sound of a 'Cavaillé-Coll' Organ

sorry but this is not good at all, in my opinion. Many of the repeated chords are missing, also many other mistakes are simply due to an exaggerated high speed. The sound lacks transparency... well, sounding far away, it may help to enjoy that speedy Wido

usually do not comment about the speed or an individual artists personal interpretation, but in this instance I must fully agree with the previous comment. Far too fast. I have heard other performers play this about as fast with a much better result. disappointing from such an artist as Ms Alain.

MAGNIFICENT! Have heard this on numerous occasions and meant to comment. Has become one of my favorite pieces. Besides the fact that a true virtuoso is performing masterfully.

Not my favorite recording (I find the organ of St. Sulpice a bit dull and prefer Brooks's recording from St. Ouen), but an incredible one nonetheless. Alain, like usual, expertly plays Dubois exciting Toccata and is worth a listen every time.

This piece can be enjoyed with very delicate registration, not as bombastic as this. Well-played nonetheless.

I know she is world renowned, but I think she missed on this one.

A slightly uneven and quirky performance, but there's no mistaking the magnificent roar of a Cavaillé-Coll.

By: Klavmann on Jun, 03 2016

Everything was beautiful, technically and musically excellent, and then the toccata happened. I'm not sure what was going on...missing notes everywhere and many wrong rhythms. Maybe she was thinking "the composer probably improvised this, so I should, too!" If so, more power to her!
