This CD ideally demonstrates one of USA's truly great recent organs, with perfectly suitable music. The Dupre is rarely heard in its entirety, the Tournemire rarely at all, but both works are profound as well as exciting and richly colorful. Tikker's variegated Variations serves as a welcome palate-cleanser! |

Dissonant, really tough to hear.

Dupre wrote Evocation during the Nazi occupation of France, hiding its real program from the public due to the danger of expressing anti-occupation sentiments. This Adagio is said to be an ardent prayer for France's deliverance. |

too much noisy reeds (chamade), and a bit painful playing... you feel the organist exhausted at the end!
By: jfdandrieu on Oct, 14 2016
The organist is not exhausted at the end: it's supposed to end slowly and grandly, that's in the score. Chamades are appropriate because Dupre wrote this piece for the organ of St-Ouen-de-Rouen which has chamades - and the Claremont organ's chamade is meant to be usable in chorus (ask the builder).

jfdandrieu is right: I was not exhausted at the end. I used the chamade exactly where it use is implied in the score, no more, no less. |

Tikker has said that in one venue where he played this piece, afterwards the church's music director asked him "how can you stand to play such achingly beautiful music?!"
By: tjtikker on Oct, 17 2017
TrichterRegal, you would have more credibility if (1) you knew how to spell "awful" and "repugnant,” (2) you hadn’t made your comment just after your previous one, in which you attacked me personally, had to be removed by Organlive administration. |

"Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!" -- aptly and excitingly expressed by this dramatic, colorful music, insightfully and authoritatively performed by Tikker, one of the world's leading Tournemire specialists!

Mostly just noise...

Tromba, I'm saorry for you, that you have so little ability to listen to music. I have had so many wonderful comments from audience members as I have played this piece over the years, people finding it vivid, evocative, full of imagery, dramatic and exciting! It's sad that you can't join in the enjoyment. |
